Having worked on oil rigs for thirty years as geologist on various positions and five years in the offices of international oil companies as operations geologist, I recently had an opportunity to interview several hundred mudloggers, data engineers, and wellsite geologists; during the course of interviews, I repeatedly observed three weaknesses in majority of candidates:

- Lack of initiative on the part of candidates to learn on the job
